Using a Microsoft Word Document in Respondus

1. Open the Microsoft word document, select all and perform a copy

2. Open Notepad and paste

3. In Notepad format the text for Respondus, refer below for an example

4. Save the Notepad document to your computer

Importing into Respondus

1. Open Respondus.

2. Click on the Import Questions button.

3. Select "Plain Text."

4. Under "File Name" click browse to find the Notepad file.

5. Name the document.

6. Click on “Preview.”

7. Correct any formatting issues.

8. Click on “Finish.”


Choosing Settings for Your Assessment

Clicking on the settings tab will allow you to select the appropriate availability settings, add special instructions,

set a time limit for the assessment, etc.. In the image below you can see which check boxes we recommend you

select, as well as some examples of time limit, date and time format, or instructions.


Choosing How to Upload

From this point there are two ways to export into BB Learn.  The first option is to publish via BB Learn

server which is recommended if Respondus is already linked (such as in the TLP lab). The second option

is to create a zip file which can later be uploaded into BB Learn. If you are unsure, it is recommended to

use the zip file method.<br />

Publishing to Blackboard Learn via BB Learn Server (skip if using zip file method)

1. From the new window click on "Preview and Publish" button at the top.

2. On the sidebar click on "Publish to Blackboard."

3. Click on the "Publish Wizard" button.

4. In the "Publish Wizard" window select the first or second option "Single" or "Multiple Courses."

5. Make sure the "Blackboard Server" is set to "BB Learn."

6. Click “Next” and enter your CSU Chico portal login credentials.


7. Select a course to publish to and click “Next” (Although you can set settings in Respondus it is recommended to change settings and options in BB Learn).


8. Select the area or folder you wish to link the test to.

9. Click "Next".


9. Click “Finish.”

10. The test should now be in your BB Learn and you can edit the options and setting as you normally would with BB Learn Tests.


Publishing to Blackboard Learn via zip file

1. From the new window click on "Preview and Publish" button at the top.

2. On the sidebar click on "Publish to Blackboard."

3. Click on the "Publish Wizard" button.

4. In the "Publish Wizard" window select the third option "Save pool to local file for manual upload."

5. Click "Save As" and choose a location for the Respondus file.

6. Click "Finish."

7. Log into BB Learn and navigate to "Tests, Surveys and Pools."

8. Enter the "Tests" section and choose "Import Test."

9. Locate the Respondus Zip file and click “Submit.”

10.The test should now be in your BB Learn and you can edit the options and setting as you normally would with BB Learn Tests.
